Sweet and Tangy Bells Ring On High. Picturing a doe on a hill conjures up an image as sweet and adorable as this pepper. Resembling a miniature pumpkin, these orange peppers are sweet enough to eat raw- which a doe on a hill just might do. This late 1800s family heirloom from the Doe Hill area in Highland County, VA, comes to us via Southern Exposure Seed Exchange, of Mineral, VA. Despite its name, it should be kept free of deer. It's especially attractive to elk, wapiti, moose, caribou, reindeer, mule, and white-tail when it's been picked, topped, de-seeded, stuffed with sage risotto, and placed on a platter on a picnic table al fresco.
